We are currently seeking instructors and course designers with out-of-hospital birth experience who are CPMs, CNMs or NDs. We will be expanding our holistic and global health courses and will be looking for instructors in those areas in the future.
Qualifications:
- For midwifery courses, must be a midwife with out-of-hospital birth experience, with at least five years’ experience working in the field. For other courses, each must be working in their specialty, e.g. as a doula, lactation consultant, herbalist, nutritionist, etc.
- For general education courses, must have a graduate degree in the field they are teaching, or closely related.
- Must be licensed or certified by state or province or by national certification. Exceptions can be made for special circumstances. Teaching degrees are not required.
- Have knowledge of the given subject and prior teaching experience. Have online teaching experience or a willingness to take additional training.
- Be proficient in using the Internet and in downloading files and attachments, and be comfortable with a variety of software.
- Have a good computer system at home with a broadband connection. You must meet these computer standards here. If you are a practicing midwife, you may need a laptop. Operating system must be XP or higher for PCs. If you have a Mac, it must be 100% compatible with PCs.
- Be dedicated to teaching that meets the Aviva Institute's Standards
Responsibilities for online teaching:
- Be online a minimum of six out of seven days (every day is preferred), to check email and student progress during the weeks you are teaching. The time of day is flexible.
- Complete the Faculty Orientation Course, including designing a sample course using the examples given in the course within six weeks of being hired.
- Review the course materials. Work with the course designer to implement any changes.
- Provide evaluation and meaningful feedback to students.
- Have all grading done and posted each week by the deadline.
- Participate in faculty committees, peer review, continuing education and development activities (all online).
- Be able to commit to 5-10 hours a week of teaching for the duration of your course, 3-6 weeks.
Wages & Compensation:
Wages run from $18.00-23.00 per teaching hour. For those who teach the courses they design, teaching is paid in addition to the course design fees of $250/per credit. Faculty are paid as contract labor and are responsible for their own taxes. In order to meet IRS rules for contract employees, you must have your own practice or business. We need a copy of your business card on file.
