I am a Apprentice which for prior self study can I get credit? If you have done extensive self study and apprenticeship, we may be able to transfer some credits. Previous birth and clinical experience can be counted if it was documented according to NARMs PEP, or supervised by one of our approved preceptors and properly documented.
I am already a CPM. Can I get an undergraduate degree here?
Yes, depending on where and how long ago you got your training, we will review your application, your CPM makes up the bulk of a Certificate degree, there may be additional coursea you will need to meet our standard that were not included in your original training, in addition you will need general education credits for your Bachelor's of Science (BSM) in Midwifery. We can transfer in courses you may have taken in other colleges. You will need to take Anatomy and Physiology if you wish the BSM degree if you have never taken it on a college level.
I am a RN do you have a CPM Midwifery Track?
Yes, we will review your experience and prior learning and make a recommendation on courses you will need to take. Hospital based care is a very different paradigm then out-of-hospital care. We train midwives for delivering babies at home and in birth centers where the support levels are very different than in a hospitals. Your advanced placement process is the same as a non-nurse, but many more of the courses, such as chemistry, or microbiology you may not need.
What is the Advance Placement Process?
The step-by-step process is as follows:
- You complete the application and pay the application fee.
- The advanced placement fee of $150.00 is paid.
- The registrar will send you a form with the course descriptions and you complete detailing which courses you wish to take and which ones you feel you do not need due to your previous training. For each of those courses (separate per course) provide information on reasons why you do not feel you need it. This could be transcripts, copies of certificates, workshop outlines, syllabus, classes, or details of self study.
- For BSM general education courses (math & English) or foreign language may be transferred, an official transcript from an DOE recognized accredited institution is sent to the adminstrative office.
- Faculty & staff will review your materials.
- Staff will provide you with their assessment of which courses you do not need to take based on the documentation you provide. There may be courses where you have some background, but not enough to meet Aviva Institute Standards.
- An agreement is made in writing on what courses and/or clinical documentation are needed for graduation.
- You will need to register for the orientation course, that is required for everyone, also the prerequisites courses if needed.
