Scholarships and Work Study Positions

Need Based Scholarships

There are limited partial scholarships available for programs offered at Aviva Institute.  We are in the process of grant writing and researching scholarships options to expand options for low income students.

Current Scholarships offered:

 

Childbirth Educator Training

Priority is given to women planning on teaching families facing issues such as poverty, language issues, cultural differences, and racism.

Scholarships are designed for those who would be unable to take the course at the full cost, but do have resources to pay partial tuition and books.

Usual cost of the course is $450.00; scholarship covers 50% of tuition excluding books. Payment arrangements can be made for the discounted cost of $225.00, if needed.  Students are responsible for purchasing the required textbooks. 

 

Professional Education for Midwives

Limited full scholarships are available for midwives practicing in developing nations in the continuing education and for some courses as a non matriculating student. Midwives must be currently practicing as a primary midwife, have excellent English and Internet access. We are working on grants to expand these programs.

 

 



Midwifery Program
Work Study/Scholarship

Aviva Institute offers one work study/ scholarship position per year. Applications for that position are currently accepted and we expect to fill it prior to 4/1/08

Overview

Work study positions are for low income students who are unable to otherwise afford the program, but have the time to devote to study and extra work. Tuition is worked off at a pay rate of $10-15/hour. The pay rate is determined by the students resume and job skills.This applies to the entire program excluding books and clinical credits or fees. The work is for up to 75% off the tuition. The scholarship is for 25% of the tuition, up to $2375.00 for BSM, excludes books and clinical tuition and fees. The student will work is as an administrative assistant in various departments.  All duties are done online or on the phone. Students can be located anywhere in the following time zones:  AT, PT, MT, CT, ET  

Qualifications:

  1. Have broadband internet access at home, have a newer PC, not anything old or slow, with MS Word, or Word Perfect installed. 
  2. Prior experience as an adminstrative assistance or strong office skills.
  3. A history of academic excellence,  > 3.5 GPA in college or high school.
  4. Have experience doing office work,  online research. 
  5. Excellent English and proofreading skills.
  6. Fluent in MS Word and comfortable in Excel or other spreadsheet.
  7. Access or other database experience helpful
  8. Be low income, yet be able to afford the 25% of tuition, books and fees.
  9. Have time to devote 5-10 hours a week in addition to school study time, must be available some weekday, daytime hours.

Responsibilities:

  1. "Attend" regular scheduled staff meetings via conference call.
  2. Answering incoming students emails and returning phone calls.
  3. Internet Research  
  4. Editing and proof reading
  5. Formatting documents
  6. Other duties as assigned
